Helene D. Oreck, 62, of E. 3rd St., died Monday, March 29, 2004 in St. Mary's Medical Center.

Helene was a lifelong resident of Duluth and a graduate of Duluth East & UMD.

She was an active member of Duluth Congregational Church and had worked for the Kitchen Cupboard and in various abstract companies. Helene was very proud of having helped her daughter, Sarah establish the Mount Royal Pines Dining Club. She loved her family and lived for her grandchildren. She had a wealth of information about Duluth and the Iron Range and would captivate people with her stories. She had a way of turning something negative into something positive.

Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; and her mother, Helen Hastings.

She is survived by two daughters, Sarah Evans of Duluth and Anne (Corey) Edmunds of Maplewood, Minn.; one brother, John Hastings of St. Paul; step-father Dick Hastings of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Katherine, Barbara, Joseph, Derek, Megan and Jacob.

GATHERING OF FRIENDS:11:30 a.m. until the 12 p.m. service Friday in Duluth Congreational Church, 3833 E. Superior St. If desired, memorials to Breast Cancer Research appreciated.
